68 White Sands, Dumfries DG1 2PG, United Kingdom
About us If you’re wandering through Dumfries and craving a spot that balances bold flavours, warm ambiance, and a touch of modern flair, The Bank Bar And Tapas on 68 White Sands is a hidden gem that locals adore-and for good reason. Whether you're popping in for a solo lunch, a casual dinner, or just a few drinks after work, this place delivers an experience that feels both relaxed and thoughtfully curated.
Let’s start with what makes The Bank Bar And Tapas stand out. It’s not just a bar, and it’s more than your typical tapas joint. This venue brings together a lively mix of tapas lovers, cocktail seekers, and foodies on the hunt for something a little different. And yes-it’s wheelchair accessible, which is a small but crucial detail many guests appreciate.
You get that cozy-modern vibe the moment you step in. There’s an unmistakable buzz during dinner hours, especially on weekends, but it never feels overwhelming. It’s the kind of place where the lighting flatters, the background music is on point, and you never feel rushed. It’s popular for lunch as well-perfect if you’re looking for somewhere chill but satisfying during a midday break.
Now let’s talk food. The menu is a confident mix of small plates and full-bodied flavours, with a few surprises thrown in. If you’re new to tapas, don’t worry-everything is served with enough flair to make it feel like an experience, not just a meal. Signature bites like the Pork Belly with Sesame Seeds and Halloumi Fries strike that sweet spot between indulgent and balanced. The Truffle Parmesan Fries are ridiculously addictive, and if you see Haggis Balls on the menu-order them. Trust me.
Seafood fans won’t feel left out either. The Surf and Turf Ribs, Beer Battered Cod with Triple Cooked Chips, and even the Tempura Broccoli keep things playful but deeply satisfying. There’s a creative twist on classics, like the Fish Mac and Cheese and Macaroni and Cheese with Garlic Mushrooms, offering comfort food with a gourmet edge.
And let’s not ignore the sweet and sour chicken or poke bowls, which give a nod to fusion without overcomplicating the dish. It’s this kind of variety that keeps diners coming back-especially those looking for a balance between meat-heavy tapas and veggie-forward options.
This place isn’t called The Bank Bar for nothing. Their bar menu is just as much a draw as the food. Whether you're into craft beer, mocktails, or a well-made cocktail, you’ll find something worth sipping here.
Some of the standouts? The Espresso Martini is smooth and strong with just the right balance, and the Strawberry Daiquiri is refreshingly sharp without being overly sweet. You’ll also find the Passion Fruit Mojito Mocktail making waves with those who want something bright and tropical without the buzz. For the classic cocktail lovers, the Old Fashioned and Gin N Tonic deliver with confidence.
Wine lovers aren’t forgotten either. There’s a well-curated wine list that caters to both casual drinkers and more seasoned palates. You’ll also find Bramble Cocktails and even beer mocktails if you're in the mood for something new.
Aside from the rich variety and consistent quality, The Bank Bar And Tapas knows its audience. It’s ideal for solo diners who want to graze and unwind, perfect for date night, and a great spot to catch up with friends over shared plates and good drinks. Plus, the service is quick, the team is friendly without being overbearing, and there’s an attention to detail that doesn’t go unnoticed.
The venue doesn't offer delivery or takeaway, which means every dish is meant to be enjoyed fresh, on-site. There’s a kind of intentionality in that. You come here to enjoy the atmosphere, the people, and the craft behind the menu.
For those who appreciate great coffee, late-night bites, and the kind of place that treats food and drink like a proper craft-The Bank Bar And Tapas is well worth a visit. Whether you're into small plates, adventurous cocktails, or just somewhere that gets all the little things right, you’ll likely leave planning your next visit before you even hit the door.

“£22 for 3 dishes is quite the steal. The dishes are actually quite big which is nice as many other tapas will give you 3 pieces of calamari and charge you £7. I was completely full just on my own and I could see this filling up two people. Food was good. Philly cheese steak maybe could be a bit more seasoned. Staff are lovely and the place is beautiful. Would recommend.”
“Good food very reasonable 3 tapas dishes and a glass of wine for £20. Food came quick the option to stagger the 3 plates would have been nice to keep it warmer but not an issue. Staff all very friendly and attentive no waving required. My 2nd mid week visit and would go back again.”
“Our original dinner choice was having a pop up and not serving their normal food, and our backup was closed on a night they showed they would be open so we ended up at The Bank. I really like the way they do the menu. Tapas are always fun. The cocktail I had was phenomenal. The service was ok. The food was ok. The best thing were the ribs my husband ordered — tangy with a hint of crispness around the edges. The street corn could have been fabulous (the flavor was good), but they either used frozen corn or boiled it forever because it was soggy. The panko cauliflower was tasty but also a little on the soggy side. I think this would be better to serve with the sauce as a dip to keep it fresh and crunchy. The sweet and sour pork was great.”
“This restaurant is great for a meal out. Tapas deal on my visit £20 for 3 items /bowls per person. Really good food and filling too, no silly wee helpings! Sweets are available as an extra if required. Drinks reasonable price. Cocktails delicious too. Attentive table service through out Atmosphere pleasant. Highly recommended.”
